Wherever GPS can’t reach
Lidark was built for underground galleries, where there is no signal and no GPS and you need to be able to walk back out. The same principle, a LiDAR survey drawn as you walk, is useful in many other places: the basement at home, a room to renovate, a technical room, an underground car park, a crypt, or a space you want in 3D.
The core: underground, no GPS
The original use comes first: mapping a gallery, a quarry or a cave, and finding your way back to the entrance along the path you walked. The guides below cover it in detail.
Caving
Complement classic cave surveying with an iPhone LiDAR 3D model: development, altitude profile, landmarks, way back to the entrance, no network.

Survey an underground quarry or mine with an iPhone Pro: gallery plan, altitude profile, PLY/OBJ 3D model, way back to the exit, offline.

Urbex in authorised places: keep a record of your route, a plan and the way back with no GPS or network, using an iPhone Pro’s LiDAR.

GPS does not work underground. How to find your way in a gallery with no network: path, landmarks, thread back and an offline LiDAR minimap on iPhone.

The other uses
Six everyday or professional situations where a fast, offline, exportable survey saves time.
Basement, attic, crawl space: scan the corners of your home with an iPhone
Basement, cellar, attic, crawl space, garage: survey them in 3D with the LiDAR of an iPhone Pro, offline, and keep a plan you can export or show.
Read the page →Room plan: survey a room before renovation with iPhone LiDAR
Scan a room with the LiDAR of an iPhone Pro, get a 2D plan and a 3D model to send to your contractor, opened free in the web viewer. Indicative, not certified.
Read the page →Tunnel, gallery, technical room: a fast survey with the iPhone
Indicative survey of a gallery, tunnel or technical room with the LiDAR of an iPhone Pro: plan, 3D model, offline. Not certified, to be completed.
Read the page →Underground car park: find your car or the exit, with no GPS
In a big underground car park with no GPS, start a LiDAR survey at the lift and follow the way-back arrow. A secondary use of Lidark, with its limits.
Read the page →Crypt, cavity, heritage: document an underground place in 3D
Document an authorised crypt, vaulted cellar or cavity with the LiDAR of an iPhone Pro: dated 3D model, 2D plan, markers, offline. Not certified.
Read the page →Room to 3D: scan a place and export it as GLB, OBJ or PLY
Scan a room or a place with the LiDAR of an iPhone Pro and export the 3D model as GLB, OBJ or PLY for Blender, Sketchfab or a game engine.

What Lidark is not
- Not a certified measuring instrument: the survey is indicative and replaces neither a land surveyor, nor a quantity surveyor, nor an inspection.
- Not a rescue or safety device: an orientation aid, never your only way to find an exit.
- An iPhone Pro with a LiDAR scanner is required to scan (iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models). Without LiDAR you can still browse the example survey.
